MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum is an architectural landmark in Chiang Mai where industrial design, creative heritage, and modern art seamlessly come together. Housed in a transformed former warehouse, the space draws aesthetic inspiration from local northern Thai culture and contemporary minimalism, creating a platform dedicated to showcasing world-class Thai and regional art.
We chose to photograph this document because it captures a foundational moment for MAIIAM’s identity, centering on Jean-Michel Beurdeley’s personal vision and emotional connection to the collection. We wanted to highlight the significance of presenting decades-old, previously unseen works alongside dynamic modern media—ranging from sculpture to moving images. Documenting this text allows us to frame the story behind the exhibition BLACK: Vibrant Multiple Light, conveying how a co-founder’s collecting philosophy forms the permanent baseline for the museum's evolving contemporary narrative.
